Launching #edsketch !
This May, we would like to encourage everyone to take part in a challenge. The challenge is to share a sketch every day in May. We can all track each other by using #edsketch15 on our shares (whether it be on twitter, Google+, Instagram or whatever social media you utilise). Inspired by Austin Kleon's Show Your Work, we would like to encourage everyone to sketch something they have been reading, thinking about, trying out, observing, questioning, exploring, reflecting on, working on that day.
Sketches are great for this purpose - they don't take an hour to write (although you are absolutely welcome to craft it for as long as you want). The quality of the sketch doesn't matter - it's not our drawing talent we are sharing, it's our ideas and thoughts. If you are worried about what your sketches look like, perhaps this task will help you develop more creative confidence over the month as well. If this worries you, this post gives some tips that helped Steve Mouldey when sketching thoughts for Google Teacher Academy last year.
The sketch can be hand drawn or on an app, it doesn't matter. Your choice of being on a Post-It, like the May sketch at the start of this post, or on A3 paper. Choose whatever suits your thoughts that day. By sharing our thoughts in a sketch, we will quickly share what we are working on, thinking about over the month. Perhaps you will find someone else sketching about the same ideas and you can help each other out. Perhaps you will inspire others to try out something you have done. Maybe it will just help you clarify some thoughts for yourself.
The best way to get started on a challenge like this (or making any change really) is not to hesitate. Just start. Sketch something that has been in your head that day and press share. If the same thought has been there for a few days you have a choice, draw a new sketch on the thoughts (from a different perspective perhaps) or refine the sketch from a couple of days ago to show how your thoughts are developing.
